He found that black players were talented but they were not getting enoguh opportunity to play in a college basketball tournament. So he recruited some of them and in his team the majority of the players were black. This did not go well with the college authority as well as the local people in Texas.
They did not enjoy it but the coach was adamant and he kept on trying. He inspired all his players and in the final there is the national final. In the final match, the coach did something which was unprecedented in the history of college basketball.
He put all seven of the black players in the team- five on court and two extra. It was like a Cinderella story or a fairy tale story and they won the championship and they created history.
