Epic Poetry in the 21st Century

We all are fan of epic poetry. There are many poems in different countries and some of the poems are considered to be a part of national heritage and treasure. Think of Iliad and Odyssey. They were written originally in Greece but in our time, they are considered to be a part of the heritage of European civilization. Well, you have to agree with me on one mandate that most of the epic poems were written many years ago or I should say many centuries ago. I cannot think of any notable epic of the twentieth century in any language.

What about the twentieth century? I wonder whether we can find any national epic in this century. What is your idea about it?

I am working on my own national epic poem-- a song about 9/11/01. Expect to see it circulate through the internet next september. This is not my first epic poem, although it is my first "serious" one. I have previously written a science fiction epic poem entitled the SkyPath Crusade. I am using the same structure for my september 11th poem, which is currently 25% finished.

Epic is not only important part of literature but also important for history. It has great significance. Epic is considered as the written records of history. When historian tries to know about any particular ancient age he or she can take help from the epic, which belongs to that period. In epic, we can find the image of that period when it was written. Archaeologists or historians they can find several information from epic. In this way, the historians have come to know about several histories which have not proper written records.
Yes, it is true that most of the epic were written in many centuries ago. Throughout the year, the style of writing has been changed. So, may be in the 21st century we can not find any epic poetry. However, there is no doubt that epic has an important place in the history of English literature.

  3. I've created my own epic poem for my dissertation and I've found a few epic poems from 20th century such as Simon Armitage, Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams

I, too, am currently writing an epic poem. Unfortunately, the epic is not a very mainstream or popular form of literature, and it may be difficult to find many in the 21st century.
